13TH International Scientific Symposium
Positive Approach in Applied Behavior Analysis. Supporting people with ASD and their families

- Description: The 13th Symposium was attended by over 10.000 people via the videoconferencing platform and broadcast on our Facebook profile (1,583 on Click Meeting, 8,300 on Facebook, 300 on Youtube).
The program included 13 lectures prepared by specialists from Poland and the USA. It was divided into two blocks: Polish and English.
In the Polish-language part of the speech, representatives of the Institute for Child Development: Dr Anna Budzińska, Iwona Ruta-Sominka. Representatives of the Fundacja Anny Florek CZAS DZIECIŃSTWA: Greta Dębińska-Żołyniak, Joanna Słupek. 11TH International Scientific Symposium
15th anniversary of IWRD. The treatment of people with autism – implementation of the model originally proposed by dr. Krantz and dr. McClannahan

- Description: The 11th Symposium hosted over 1100 participants through a videoconference platform and a stream on our Facebook profile. Thanks to numerous social media shares, we reached over 10 thousand people from all over the world.
The program included 17 lectures prepared by Polish and American experts. The Symposium was divided into two blocks for lectures in Polish and English.
The Polish block hosted the following clinicians, who presented the results of their work: Dr. Anna Budzińska and Iwona Ruta Sominka (Institute for Child Development), Ewa Budzińska (Institute for Child Development), Marta Wójcik (Institute for Child Development), Katarzyna Hamerlak and Anna Młynarczyk (Community Integrational Kindergarten of the Czas Dzieciństwa Foundation in Warsaw), Anna Piętka (Kindergarten for Children with Autism at the Special School and Education Center in Poznań), Anna Lubomirska (Institute for Child Development), Magdalena Żukowska and Małgorzata Grzybek (Special Kindergarten at the District School and Special Needs Facilities Complex in Legionowo), Katarzyna Piechowiak and Irena Wojciechowska (“Słoneczny Domek” Private Integrational Kindergarten in Kołobrzeg), Aleksandra Lutomierska and Halina Stępień (“Mały Książę” Treatment and Education Center in Toruń), Żaneta Diks (Special School and Education Center in Żukowo).

10THInternational Scientific Symposium
Psychological, Genetic and Neurological Aspects of ASD Diagnosis

- Place: University of Gdańsk – Faculty of Social Sciences; Sheraton Sopot Hotel (banquet)
- Description: The 10th Symposium hosted around 450 participants from Poland and abroad (including guests from the USA, Canada, Norway, Turkey, Italy, Hungary, and others).
The program of the 10th Symposium encompassed 11 lectures, speeches by the Symposium’s hosts and representatives from the Ministry of National Education and Gdańsk City Council, a screening of a movie produced by the Institute for Child Development titled “Autism. Everyone has his/her own Mount Everest,” and a poster session meeting with 20 educational institutions recommended by the Institute for Child Development.
Lectures during the Symposium were conducted by world-renowned scientists specializing in research and treatment of autism spectrum disorders. Among them were Prof. Włodzisław Duch from the Neurocognitive Laboratory of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń; Prof. Jacob Vorstman from The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto; Prof. Katarzyna Chawarska from Yale University; Dr. Dawn Townsend; Dr. Kevin Brothers; Dr. Patricia Krantz; Dr. Lynn McClannahan from the Alliance for Scientific Autism Intervention, USA; Prof. Lucina Q. Uddin from University of Miami; Prof. Svein Eikeseth from Oslo Metropolitan University; and Dr. Anna Budzińska from the Institute for Child Development.
Furthermore, President of Autism-Europe Suzsanna Szilvasy and Vice President of Autism Speaks Dr. Andy Shih presented lectures related to the perception of autism and ongoing actions in the global public health agenda.
Following the Symposium, two speakers joined the Scientific Committee of the Institute for Child Development: Prof. Katarzyna Chawarska from Yale University, USA and Prof. Włodzisław Duch from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Consequently, the committee now counts seven members. - Honorary Patronage: Mayor of Gdańsk.
9TH International Scientific Symposium
Applied Behavior Analysis in Autism Spectrum Disorders – Research and Practice

- Place: University of Gdańsk – Institute of Psychology
- Description: During the Symposium, lectures were given by outstanding specialists from Poland and the international community, including Dr. Svein Eikeseth (Norway), Dr. Per Holth (Norway), Dr. Neil Martin (United Kingdom), and Dr. Laura Hall (USA). Presented topics included effective, scientific methods of treatment for patients with autism based on Applied Behavior Analysis, new technologies used in work with children with autism, and opportunities for growth through cooperation within the BACB framework. Activities of the Institute for Child Development and its affiliated institutions were presented. Parents of children with autism working with specialists from the Institute talked about their experiences with home educational and treatment programs.
2016 marked the 10th anniversary of our Institute. It was an opportunity for reflecting upon our activities so far and for celebration. - Honorary Patronage: Mayor of Gdańsk.

- Description: Symposium had the Honorary Patronage of the First Lady of Poland, Anna Komorowska. Over 180 guests participated in the event. Lectures were given by experts invited from abroad, such as Dr. Kevin Brothers (USA), Dr. Per Holth (Norway), Dr. Kathrin Hippler and Sonja Mentzler (Austria), and Marcela Simurkowa (Slovakia), as well as speakers from the Institute for Child Development and its affiliated institutions.

Effective methods of teaching children with autism in practice and research
- Date: 28-29 March 2009
- Place: University of Gdańsk – Faculty of Social Sciences
- Description: Among the speakers were guests from abroad: Dr. Patricia Krantz and Dr. Lynn McClannahan from Princeton Child Development Institute (USA) and Dr. Per Holth from Akerkus University College (Norway). The conference hosted close to 220 experts from Poland. The program of the second day included 4 workshops: “Early diagnosis of autism disorders in children,” “Writing treatment programs for children with autism and related disorders,” “Developing social behaviors,” and “Analysis of the development of a student with autism across different skill areas – a case study.” The workshops had 90 participants in total.
2ND International Scientific Symposium
Early behavioral intervention for children with autism – scientific research
- Date: December 2007
- Place: University of Gdańsk
- Description: Over 200 students, teachers, psychologists and therapists from all over Poland participated in the Symposium. Lectures were given by Princeton Child Development Institute Directors Dr. Patricia Krantz and Dr. Lynn McClannahan (USA) as well as experts from University of Gdańsk and the Institute for Child Development. The newest research on using activity plans and scripts and their fading in treatment of individuals with autism was presented.
